What changed for 2027
Badger matches what you put in, up to $10 a week — up to $520 over a full year, on top of your own contributions.
There are two separate accounts. You can enroll in either or both.
Health Care FSA
Reimburses you for eligible expenses that your health plan doesn't pay. Limit: $3,500 per individual.
Eligible expenses
- Medical copays, coinsurance and deductibles
- Routine wellness visits
- Prescription expenses
- Eye exams, eyeglasses and contact lenses
- LASIK surgery
- Dental expenses (excluding cosmetic)
- Orthodontia payments
- Hearing expenses
- Over-the-counter medications
- Menstrual care items
What you save
Savings depend on your tax bracket. Flores' own worked example: if you are taxed at 25% and enroll for $3,300, you save about $825 in tax.
Dependent Care FSA
Reimburses day care expenses that let you — and your spouse, if you're married — work. Care must be for a dependent child under 13, or a dependent of any age living in your household who cannot care for themselves.
Limit: $7,500 a year if you are single or married filing jointly; $3,750 if married filing separately.
Eligible
- Preschools
- Before and after school care
- Day camps
Not eligible
- Overnight camps
- Tuition, kindergarten and educational expenses
- Regular fees not applied to care of the child
Flores' worked example: taxed at 25% and enrolling for $5,000 saves about $1,250 in tax.
Use it or lose it — read this before you elect
Funds you don't spend by the end of the plan year (December 31, 2027) may be forfeited. Estimate carefully — it is better to under-elect than over-elect.
Health Care FSA
- A 90-day runout to submit claims for expenses incurred before the plan year ended.
- You may roll over up to $700 of unused funds into the following year.
Dependent Care FSA
- A 2.5-month grace period to incur and submit claims after the plan year ends.
- No rollover. Funds remaining after the grace period are forfeited.
