What it covers
Nothing about this benefit changed for 2027.
Disability insurance replaces part of your income if you are unable to work because of an injury or illness. It is the benefit people are most surprised to find they have.
- Cost to you: nothing. Markovitz pays 100% of the premium.
- Coverage begins a set number of days after the event that caused your disability — the elimination period.
- You are then paid either a fixed weekly amount or a set percentage of your income.
- Your benefit amount is based on your employment class.
If you need to claim
- Tell HR as early as you can — there are time limits, and the elimination period starts from the date of the event, not the date you file.
- HR will tell you your specific benefit amount and the elimination period that applies to you.
- You and your doctor will need to provide information about your condition.
Who's eligible
Full-time employees working 30 or more hours a week who have met the new-hire waiting period. Coverage is automatic and employer-paid.
